Pakistan Deploys First AI Security Surveillance System in Peshawar

In order to improve security in the red zone of the provincial capital, the provincial administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has successfully installed a sophisticated “command and control system” driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

The Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Ahsan Azhar Hayat officially opened this ground-breaking technology, the first of its type in Pakistan, on Monday at the Central Police Office.

The cutting-edge system has 365 security cameras with facial and vehicle recognition technology. Akhtar Hayat, the provincial police commander, emphasised that its main purpose is to identify and monitor everyone entering the red zone, which receives about 50,000 visitors every day.

The police chief’s office stressed two major goals served by the AI-driven command and control system in a statement. Its primary goal is to safeguard the security of vital sites within the red zone. Second, it aims to provide an automated, integrated entry system for registered personnel.

The statement went on to say that all field commanders will have easy access to the command and control system, giving them better operational capabilities to respond to.The police expect that by utilising AI technology, their capacity to oversee and handle security within the red zone would be much improved.

The government has demonstrated its commitment to adopting cutting-edge solutions to protect public areas and important infrastructure with this technical innovation. In the red zone of the provincial capital, the introduction of the AI-powered system is a significant step towards boosting security measures and simplifying access control processes.

A further layer of protection will be added to the region thanks to the seamless identification of people and vehicles made possible by the integration of face and vehicle recognition capabilities with the massive surveillance camera network. The system’s capacity to analyse and process data in real time will help law enforcement organisations prevent possible threats and guarantee the security of all visitors and staff inside the red zone.

The effective deployment of this state-of-the-art command and control system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa creates a positive precedent for utilising AI technology to improve security measures throughout the nation. It marks a significant advancement in enhancing public safety and protecting vital locations from hazards and security breaches.
