All hospitals in the federal capital have been put on high alert to prepare for any potential emergency after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a heatwave warning.
amid a letter to PIMS and Polyclinics hospitals, the Islamabad government urged them to be ready for medical emergencies amid the sweltering weather that has been ongoing.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released advisories advising the public to take preventative steps to resist the high heatwave and strong summer winds, which can be harmful if not managed appropriately.
The NDMA advises limiting outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, consuming just plain water, and avoiding carbonated beverages.
It emphasises the value of protecting one’s head, especially for vulnerable populations like the ill, elderly, young, and animals.
The NDMA advises ingesting ORS and lemon water to make up for a lack of salt. It’s also advised to dress in airy, light attire.
Pouring cold water on their head is suggested if someone faints from the heat.
Extreme heat waves might cause glaciers in glaciated places to melt, and relevant institutions are ready to handle unforeseen problems, according to the NDMA.
Residents in locations vulnerable to glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) are asked to be on guard, work with local authorities, and take the required safety precautions.
Tourists are advised by the NDMA to stay away from GLOF-prone areas and to not travel there. The harm caused by melting glaciers can be lessened with prompt preventative measures.
